Quick facts about mould

Essential Shield has brought countless homes back to a habitable and presentable condition in relation to toxic mould impact on residents.

There are over 100000 different types of mould. Some types of mould are fairly benign, and some even have medicinal uses.

The most common allergenic moulds include Alternaria, Aspergillus, Cladosporium and Penicillium.

The most dangerous type of mould found indoors is Stachybotrys chartarum, often called “black mould.” Black mould is toxic to humans and pets.

  • Why is Mr Mould so effective?

Mr Mould harnesses the powerful unique blend of five therapeutic grade essential oils to create the time-proven perfect “natural “storm against mould and mildew. The cleaning component of the product is derived from coconut – the residual coating left on the surface creates somewhat of a moisture barrier that assists in retarding the return of mould.

  • What's the difference between Mr Mould and Naturamax?

Naturamax harnesses the full cleaning potential of Mr Mould while utilizing only half the amount of Essential Oils. Its purpose is to thoroughly clean and sanitize, rather than solely addressing mould remediation.

  • Does bleach and chlorine kill mould?

No. It just bleaches it so it can not be seen.

  • Does clove oil kill mould?

Yes, but clove oil only impacts about 10% of mould species. There are over 8,500 mould species we are currently aware of, which is why we employ 5 therapeutic-grade essential oils to assist in addressing this spectrum of mould.

  • Are your natural cleaning products safe for children and pets?

    Yes

  • What can I clean with Mr Mould and Naturamax?

Almost any surface, walls/ceilings, leather – shoes, fabrics/furniture/timber furniture, cane items,  but avoid highly polished surfaces, you can even put ¼ of a cup in with the washing machine to deal with fabrics and clothing. Read this blog for more information.

  • Does your treatment actually remediate and remove mould?

The answer is “YES”!  Here is a link to an independent mould testing lab report on the performance of our Mr Mould product. Our specific blend of essential oils rapidly affects a 100% remediation of the entire spectrum of toxic mould. There are many university testing reports on this specific blend of essential oils out there that fully support the results of this specific report, this is the basis on which we created our formulation.

  • Do you seek out what is causing the mould?

A vital part of our service is to carefully assess and advise you as to what is actually causing the mould infestation. As part of our on-site service, we provide advice as to the appropriate measures that should be taken, outside the scope of our service capacities to remedy the causes of mould.

  • How much does it cost to clean my mould?

We endeavour to keep our service fees as affordable as possible for our clients. To gain a rapid estimation of costs for your requirements please give us a call and once we have an idea of your specific needs we will be able to immediately provide you with an accurate idea of the costs of service. We provide free no-obligation quotations!

  • How are airborne mould spores dealt with?

You may already be aware that essential oils are commonly diffused using essential oil burners and diffusers, once we apply our essential oil-powered mould treatments onto the surfaces within your home, these surfaces actually then act as essential oil diffusers in their own right. This vapour assists in dealing with airborne toxic mould.

This vapour phase activity also acts as a brilliant deodoriser, removing that unpleasant musty mould and mildew odour. You may elect to purchase a bottle of Essential Shield oil for ongoing use in your home.

  • What surfaces and locations through out a premises can be dealt with?

Our services address internal ceilings, walls fixtures, and fittings, floor coverings and rugs, furniture, and curtains ( please note, we do not offer curtain washing and laundering, only the application of mould remediation treatments).

We also deal with all external building surfaces, driveways and paths, garden retaining walls, and so on.

  • Can you do Internal Roof Voids?

In many cases mould found on ceilings is due to water ingress into the roof void, this is normally due to a failure in guttering or roofing or a pipe leak. In some cases, internal roof voids condensate during evening hours, and as the day sets in this condensation find its way down onto ceiling surfaces. A good sign that this is happening is when mould ingress is found around the edges of ceiling surfaces.

In such circumstances, we usually recommend that the internal roof void be fogged with the Essential Shield fogging treatment. This remediates both the mould on the roof void surfaces and airborne mould. A service can be tailored to deal with almost any mould treatment, removal, and ongoing defence requirement you may have.

  • Do you have to move out of the home or the office while we are working?

In most cases no, the treatments we employ present no dangers to you or your family. The manner in which we apply our products does not, in most cases, require product spraying inside the home and as such we do not need to tarp up or have furniture moved out. We create minimal disruption in the home or office!

  • How long does your mould treatments last?

The Essential Shield surface treatment leaves a totally natural, coconut-based, micro-fine, nonvisible, moisture-retardant coating on the treated surfaces. This microfine defensive coating assists in retarding the return of mould. As to how long the Essential Shield treatments will last, this is as variable as the wide diversity of properties, the environments they are located in, and their current and ongoing state of repair!

In short, we have properties that we have treated well over 12 months ago with no return of the mould. The bottom line is that we fully back our work and products. If there is a “reasonably based” issue with the work we have undertaken for a client within the first 6 months we will return and deal with it.

  • What we won't cover!

Our warranty “does not cover” future premise flooding or water ingress into the property caused by either severe weather events or premise faults. It also does not cover curtains, soft furnishing, carpets, or personal possessions!

  • Will the products damage the plants or lawns on my property?

Again the answer is NO. In fact, this was one of the questions we had while we were developing the products, we have applied the product on a wide range of plants and lawns and have never experienced any adverse effects on the same.

Likewise, the ingredients in the products pose no threat of runoff to natural waterways. Another important question we get from time to time is the product's potential impact on environmentally based -sewage systems.

To date, we have not experienced any adverse impacts on these systems, but if you do have such a system, we elect to alter our work procedures to ensure that residual product is not directly imposed on such systems to start with.

  • Do you offer mould testing and reports?

No, our business is mould removal and prevention, we are however delighted to refer you to a fully certified Mould Testing Laboratory for such services. See Lab results here.

  • What can we do to further defend against future mould?

As part of our service, we provide you with a range of written recommendations on how to effectively contain the return of mould & mildew. As part of these ongoing mould management initiatives, we are able to offer you a range of naturally-based products to assist with dealing with ongoing mould management in your home.
